The Associated Students of Golden West College Student Council this week considered a change in its standing rules and constitution in hopes of creating two new ASGWC council positions.
If passed, the amendments would establish new council positions for the fall 2010 semester.
These positions include a voting member (sustainability commissioner) and a non-voting member (parliamentarian.)
The parliamentarian will be responsible for keeping a master calendar as well as drafting an agenda and a set of minutes for all council meetings.
The sustainability commissioner will be responsible for co-chairing the Sustainability Advisory Committee throughout the 2010-2011 school year. The commissioner will also serve as the chief liaison between the ASGWC and community members working towards progressing sustainability.
In order to make any amendment to these documents 1 percent of the students must be polled with a majority voting in support of the amendments.
If the council approved the changes when it met Tuesday (results too late for our deadline,) the voting will be held May 18-21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and from 2-5 p.m. outside of the student center patio.
If the constitutional amendments are passed, those new council positions can be applied for in the fall.
