Hippies have made great progress since the 60’s. Marches, protests and “sit-ins,” were just some of the major ways that college students who had a non-violent view on life protested against war.
Since 1965 in Berkeley, California, the anti-war movement has evolved into much more than just marches. Now in 2010, there are peace conferences.
Today’s flower children now meet together to create and encourage peaceful ways to promote the anti-war movement.
Golden West College is presenting a Peace Conference on April 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. located in the student center.
Featuring keynote speaker Jack Duvall, a founding director of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, the peace conference will have presentations on “Strategies to Establish and Defend Human Rights, Democracy, and Justice Worldwide.”
“Environmentalism and the Future of Climate Change” “The Power of Public Speech to Help Create Peaceful Communities” and other presentations on promoting the anti-war movement will also be featured.
Pre-registration only costs $10, and $15 at the door. There will be guest artists that use thought-provoking lyrics to exhibit peace in music, art, and dance.
Need another reason to enjoy a day of peace? A complimentary breakfast and lunch will be offered and parking is free.
