Golden West College has a new public safety coordinator in retired Huntington Beach Police Captain Jon Arnold, replacing former coordinator Brent Theobald, who resigned in Feb. 2011 to take a position at Vanguard University as the new dean of veteran, government, and community relations.

Having served more than 30 years at the Huntington Beach Police Department, Arnold brings a wealth of experience and commitment to Golden West College.

Arnold received his bachelor’s degree in criminology at California State University, Long Beach and his master’s in business management from Cal Poly Pomona.

In his time at the police department, Arnold not only served as captain, but also worked in special operations and the investigative divisions, as well as other assignments within the department.

Prior to assuming his new position as public safety coordinator on April 6, 2012, Arnold served as the security operations manager at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, and has also worked as security manager for the Orange County Superior Court System.

GWC Dean of Criminal Justice and Nursing Ron Lowenberg stated, “Under the new leadership of Jon Arnold we are confident a very productive relationship between the Criminal Justice Training Center and the Public Safety Department will develop.”

“I am excited to be here, Golden West College is a terrific place with a great group of people” said Arnold, who looks forward to walking the campus in weeks to come in order to familiarize himself with the campus and the students and faculty that make up this college community.

In doing so, Arnold hopes to place his finger on the pulse of the various issues and concerns related to public safety at Golden West.
