Benefit concert on April 9

The Associated Students of Golden West College are hosting a benefit concert and silent auction on the evening of Friday, April 9.  All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

The event is called “A Night of Arts” and will showcase the works of many departments at Golden West College. There will be presentations by the Music, Theater, and Dance departments, as well as display exhibits from the Floral Design and Photography departments.

Guest speakers will be present from City of Hope Hospital, the children’s advocacy group Children Today, as well as a child who is a cancer survivor.  For the final event of the evening there will be a performance by the band “The Evening Hour,” a popular Huntington Beach rock band.

A silent auction will also take place during the event.  Many of the items to be auctioned were donated by various clubs on campus as part of an ongoing effort to give back to the community.

Paul Chalfant, Associated Students Public Relations Officer, organized the benefit concert and silent auction on behalf of the Associated Students.

In May 2007 Chalfant’s younger brother was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at just 13years old. Since both of their parents worked, Paul quit work and school to take care of his younger brother while he was undergoing treatment.

Chalfant’s brother is now fully treated and in remission, and Paul is incredibly grateful for all the help his brother received. Paul returned to school and is now an activist in the fight against children’s cancer.

He chose the Children’s Cancer Research Fund because of the service and programs they provide not only to the children afflicted with cancer, but to their families and medical providers.

The Benefit Concert and Silent Auction will be located on the Golden West College campus in the Student Center from 6:30 p.m. through 10:30 p.m.

Pre-sale tickets are available in the Student Activities Office and are $10 for students and $20 for non-students. For more information, please contact Paul Chalfant at 714) 895-8261 or e-mail pchalfant@gwc.cccd.edu.
