The Golden West College women’s water polo team continued their unbeaten streak by punishing the Cypress College Chargers 13-2 at home on Wednesday, Sep. 14. After giving up two goals in the first quarter, the Rustlers shut Cypress out through the rest of the game.

“I didn’t like the way we started,” head coach Kyle Kopp said. “But once we got the defense established and started working together defensively, we got some things going.” There was plenty of offense to go around and the goal scoring was spread among many players.

Gabriela Cabrera scored three goals with Megan Craig, Brooke Learmouth and Brooke Roy all with two goals.

The real star of the game though was goalkeeper Taylor Morton. Morton came up big with some point-blank saves while rising high out of the water to shut down the Charger attack.

As impressive as they have been in their opening games, the Orange Empire Conference will test the Rustlers this season.
“Top to bottom, we are in a very tough conference,” Kopp said. “We can’t look past our next game against Orange Coast College.”

The Rustlers will attempt to extend their winning streak against Orange Coast College on Sept. 21 at 3 p.m.
