After losing to the Cerritos Falcons, 3-1, and tying the El Camino Warriors, Golden West hosted the L.A. Mission Eagles Tuesday Sept. 13 and won 3-1.
“We did really well and came out playing and firing 120 miles per hour,” Head Coach Alex Gimenez said. “We made all the right passes and read the game perfectly.”
Max Talbert started the game strong when he scored in the first three minutes. Later in the same half David Massena was fouled and subsequently scored on a penalty kick. The goal extended Golden West’s lead to 2-0.
The defensive side of the ball stepped up shutting out the Eagles for the first half. On a corner kick Danny Anaya headed the ball into the goal to give the Rustlers a three-goal lead at halftime.
“In the second half we’ve slowed down, and haven’t put 90 minutes of soccer together,” Gimenez said.
“When we can finally do that, we can do damage in league. The midfield is good, and defense is solid, but we need to improve on offense.”
During the second half, the Eagles pushed the team forward and kept the ball on offense for most of the half. They finally found themselves on the scoreboard when Michael Solano scored the first and only goal for the Eagles in the game.
The Golden West Rustlers (2-2-2) next travel to the San Diego City Knights (3-2) on Friday Sept. 16. They next host the Fullerton Hornets (3-2-1) on Friday Sept. 30.
