The Golden West men’s water polo team failed to come out on top against University of California, Santa Barbara on Saturday, October 15.

The Rustlers were unable to score at all in the first two quarters which allowed the Gauchos to build a five goal lead. David Jorth and Miso Halac bounced back in the second half with a goal each in the third quarter.

Their offensive efforts were not enough to keep up with the strength of Santa Barbara as they poured on four more points in the third quarter.

GWC’s Alex Lavayen and Ricardo Guimaraes both were able to score in the final quarter, while goalie Taylor Lapin provided four saves throughout the game but it was too little, too late as the Gauchos proved too much for the green and gold.

The Rustlers will try to bounce back with a victory when they face off against Riverside City College on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. at GWC.
