Men’s volleyball starts off year with a 3-1 mark

Under head coach Kasey Harwell the Rustlers have gotten off to a 3-1 start, and have won two in a row. The Rustlers volleyball team hosted El Camino on Friday, Feb. 8, but got off to a slow start.

Golden West lost the first set by 25-22, but won sets two, three, and four by the scores of 27-25, 25-21, and 25-11.

Great efforts by Weston Carico and Jose Ulloa helped the Rustlers win. Carico lead the team with 22 kills, Phil Lopez had 14 kills, Ulloa had seven kills, Kevin Gorance and Luke Pope had two kills, and Tyler Kulikowski had had three kills.

Carico had one ace, and put up a solo block; he finished the game with six digs. He led the team with 24.5 points. Gus Gregory led the team with two aces.

Ulloa started off the fourth set with a five point serving streak, to quickly go up 5-0, and the Rustlers went on to win the fourth and final set by 25-11.

The Rustlers will travel to Moorpark today (Feb. 20), and play at 6 p.m. Golden West next travels to Santa Monica on Friday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. The team opens up conference play on Friday, March 1 at Orange Coast College.
