Penny-pinching entertainment for students

If you’re looking fun things to do that won’t break the bank, you are in the perfect spot. Spring is here and Orange County has numerous attractions, sights and activities that cost little to nothing. In fact, there are so many, I could only list a few.

Here are some of the adventures planned for the next two weeks.

•  Classic Movie Nights at the Bay Theatre
Blue Velvet (1986): a film by David Lynch on Wed, April 28.
The Wizard of Oz (1939): MGM’s Technicolor triumph on May 2, 3 and 5.
A Clockwork Orange (1971): a film by Stanley Kubrick on May 7, 9 & 10.

•    “Surfin’ Sundays” Concert Series at the Pier Plaza
On Sunday, May 2 at the Pier Plaza from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., The Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum’s Concert Series will feature surf bands: Superwave, Glasgow Tiki Shakers, Pollo Del Mar, Slacktone, The Men of Mystery & Duotones Plus 2. •    The Sunset Beach Art Festival Weekend
A local favorite, this annual event, always on Mother’s Day weekend, will be held on May 8th and 9th. The festival will be on the greenbelt (North & South Pacific), just off of PCH, and begins at 10 a.m. Going on until late afternoon, this free event features: arts, crafts, a fundraiser raffle, live music and food.

•    Disc Golf in Huntington Central Park
Considered to be the most beautiful disc golf courses in So Cal, this 18-basket course starts on a hilltop, and winds down dirt paths to partially shaded fields. •    Shipley Spring Festival and Native Plant Sale
A traditional May Day celebration with free admission, featuring live entertainment, a traditional maypole dance, food, activities, guided tours and displays.
