In attempts to freshen up her image with some of today’s hottest, young superstars, Madonna enlists the popular Barbie doll rapper, Nicki Minaj and the edgy M.I.A., on her latest single “Gimme All Your Luvin” from her upcoming “MDNA” album. Taking yet another stab a top 40’s spotlight, Madonna incorporates some of her older, signature sounds, with the current trends of today’s pop music, producing a fun but unoriginal track.
Minaj and M.I.A. begin with cheerleader-ish chants, followed by Madonna’s feeble and somewhat bland vocal styling, all on top of a simple, bubbly beat that sounds reminiscent of her self-titled debut album. She carries on for awhile telling her subject to not, “Play the silly games cause [she’s] a different kind of girl,” and to “give [her] all [his] love.”
After the verse, chorus, verse, chorus structure, which has become an industry standard, comes Minaj rapping on the bridge-à la Kanye West on Katy Perry’s “E.T.”- followed by a dirty dub-step inspired breakdown (much like Britney Spears’ recent “Hold It Against Me” and “Till The World Ends.”)
While predictable, the track is still inexplicably addicting and formulaic enough to keep old fans happy with the familiar Madonna vibe, but also pleases younger generations. “Gimme All Your Luvin” isn’t a game changer, but it’s enough to re-introduce Madonna as a star player on the charts, yet again.
