To put it simply, Eat at Joe’s, though a small restaurant, presents the most genuine hospitality and the very best burgers I’ve tasted since moving to California.
Upon walking in, the lady behind the bar seemed surprised, but excited to see me, and told me I could sit anywhere I wanted to.
After hurrying back to my table with a menu, she immediately explained to me that the restaurant has a custom burger called “The Juicy Lucy,” which sounded exactly like my style.
While I awaited the arrival of my notorious, colossal burger, I had a little time to absorb the atmosphere of the place. It was pretty dimly-lit, making for a relaxing environment, and the place was completely dead, especially for lunchtime.
With a completely exposed kitchen, and individual rolls of paper towel, rather than napkins at all the tables, it gave me the feeling that to these people felt that serving customers was more about the passion than the profit.
The waitress offered me a free Angel’s pocket schedule, which I only had a chance to glace at briefly before my order showed up.
When she set the burger on the table I was completely stoked. It consisted of two ¼ pound patties cooked together into one giant patty, with a piece of cheese melted in the middle and a generous portion of fried onions piled on top – pure genius!
After wolfing down the delectable burger, I paid for the meal (which was fairly priced for its size), and promised I would be back – and I will.
Located just across Edinger Avenue from the Golden West campus, Eat at Joe’s is a great spot to stop and chow down between classes and maybe play some pool.
A friendly staff, uniquely delicious burgers, and a quiet, comfortable atmosphere make it worth every penny. I strongly recommend that everyone stop in and try it out at least once.
Eat at Joe’s is a low key, beer and wine hangout and if that’s your thing you can find them at 7120 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach, CA 92647 and you can contact them at (714)842-9440.
