With commercial places like El Torito and Alcapulco, it’s likely that local home-style restaurants get over-looked.
Lola’s Mexican Cuisine, located at 2030 E. 4th St. Long Beach, CA 90814, is decorated with colorful painted walls and sugar skulls.
Once seated the server greets you with a basket of chips, salsa dressing, and their homemade cilantro dip. As soon as they see your almost empty basket, they quickly grab you another one. Be careful to not fill up on just the chips, since you will still need room for your main course meal.
Their menu consists of a few appetizers, salads, soups, tacos, burritos, seafood and combination plates, and ending with desserts. The prices range from $4.95 to no more than $13.95.
The Enchilada a la Mexicana, for only $10.95, is smothered in enchilada sauce, layered with beans, lettuce and queso fresco, your choice of chicken or steak, topped off with sour cream and served with rice and beans on the side. This dish is big, and so good that you will finish it without even noticing.
If you can’t decide between chicken, shrimp, or steak then Lola’s Fajitas Especiales is the right choice. This plate also contains bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, rice, beans, and a tortilla on the side. Grilled with marinated sauces and spices, it will have you asking for more.
Their $6 margaritas are not worth trying, since they are very watered down. There are only two options to pick from if there is room for dessert, flan and tres leches cake.
Lola’s is scrumptious way to top off your day of shopping from the vintage store close by.
